Waste Haulage Officer

Job Description

A client within the Public Sector based in Leicestershire is currently recruiting for a Waste Haulage Officer to join their Waste Management Delivery, Contracts, and Haulage Operations Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority and a waste management environment.
 
The Role
Key purpose of the role is to manage key, high-value waste contracts (£3-£6 million), develop waste haulage services, and oversee operational commissioning processes from planning to implementation.
 
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Managing a team, developing their skills and competencies to support changing priorities.
  • Overseeing and managing key waste contracts, including Bulk Haulage, Plant Equipment, Treatment, Recycling, Energy from Waste (EfW), and Landfill.
  • Preparing contract documentation, including specifications and invitations to tender, ensuring compliance with EU legislation and County Council procedures.
  • Managing and monitoring waste budgets effectively.
  • Identifying and developing new commercial opportunities to generate income and reduce costs.
 
The Candidate
To be considered for this role, you will require:
  • A relevant degree or substantial equivalent experience in contract procurement, contract management, or waste transport operations.
  • Transport Manager CPC or willingness to work towards it.
  • Significant experience in waste contract procurement and management.
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
  • IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent Health and Safety qualification (desirable).
  • Experience in waste transport operations or equivalent services.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
 
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and is offering £27 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £22 per hour PAYE).
