Stoke-on-Trent City Council is seeking an experienced Social Work Assistant to join their Children’s Social Care team, supporting the delivery of high-quality services to children, young people and their families.
You’ll play a vital role in helping social workers carry out assessments, implement care plans, and deliver meaningful interventions. This includes direct work with children, family support, contributing to statutory assessments, chairing Child in Need meetings, and working closely with partner agencies.
🔹 Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support work to children and families
- Co-ordinate and chair Child in Need (S17) meetings
- Assist in assessments, including parenting and risk assessments
- Supervise family contact sessions where required
- Contribute to reports, plans, and attend court if needed
- Engage in team meetings and case planning processes
- Ensure children’s safety, wellbeing and positive outcomes are at the centre of your work
- Experience working directly with children and families
- Knowledge of safeguarding, the Children Act, and child protection legislation
- Excellent communication, report writing and IT skills
- A Level 3 qualification in working with children, or willingness to work towards it
- A full UK driving licence or ability to travel across the city
- A flexible, reflective, and child-centred approach
