Structural Engineer

On-going Contract - Outside IR35

Powys

About the role

To act as a lead for structural engineering projects and provide input to building and civil engineering projects through feasibility, detailed design and construction management stages to meet the objectives of Powys County Council in a safe, timely and cost effective manner

Responsibilities

  1. To take responsibility for structural projects with prime responsibility for building structural assessments, design calculations, contract drawings and documentation, estimates and reports on projects and undertake such other duties as are allocated.
  2. To manage structural projects, monitor performance, set targets and take responsibility for delivering assigned projects to a Client's agreed requirements.
  3. To assist in the preparation of departmental budgets, forward programmes and policies/finances.
  4. Continue your own professional development and provide professional advice, guidance and support with on-the-job training to all staff and promote continual development.
  5. Assist in the preparation of fee-bids, develop and update project briefs/plans as necessary, to ensure clients and others are kept informed of progress as appropriate.
  6. Monitor and manage the schemes to deliver on time and to budget, ensuring a consistency of standards and service.
  7. To ensure that PCC commitments to H&S and CDM are incorporated during the Design and/or Construction phase of projects.
  8. To oversee administrative, supervision and technical control of construction of works in the role of Project Manager or delegated by the Project Manager on and under any Contract(s)

Requirements

  • Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer
  • Recognised qualification in Health and Safety
  • Recognised qualification in Management
  • Recognised qualification in Environment/Ecology

Knowledge

  • A thorough working knowledge and full understanding of Structural Eng as applied in building and civil engineering
  • A good working knowledge of the DMRB and MCD
  • An understanding of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM Regulations
  • A working knowledge of the current construction legislation, law and best practice
  • An understanding of the range of civil / structural engineering procedures from feasibility to construction
  • Knowledge of structural maintenance, inspection and assessment
  • An understanding of Environmental Legislation
  • An understanding of financial standing orders and corporate procedures
  • Working knowledge of Quality management systems
