About the Role: Our client based in Gloucestershire is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Road Safety Engineer to play a leading role in the day-to-day delivery and development of road safety measures across the county.
Reporting to the Road Safety Manager, you'll be responsible for managing road safety schemes from inception through to completion, carrying out collision investigations, feasibility studies, and design proposals. The post also includes contributing to the evolution of policy and working closely with partners in the Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead delivery of road safety initiatives in line with local and national policy, including the Safe Systems approach
- Analyse collision data and carry out detailed feasibility studies and designs for road safety improvements
- Manage schemes through the full project lifecycle
- Attend and lead Road Safety Audits (in line with GG119 standards)
- Act as Team Leader for the Data and Engineering team
- Provide expert advice to councillors, stakeholders, and the public on road safety matters
- Supervise and support junior team members and assist in team development
- Support community safety initiatives, such as Community Speed Watch
- Manage budgets and ensure timely project reporting
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations (2015) and oversee project safety documentation
- Extensive experience in road safety engineering, including collision data analysis and feasibility reporting
- Strong working knowledge of The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions, Manual for Streets, and DMRB
- Experience working with JCT and/or NEC forms of contract
- Proven experience supervising project teams and managing road safety schemes from concept to delivery
- Familiarity with RIBA stages and CDM 2015 regulations
- Previous work with local authority or highways authorities preferred
- Degree or HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Road Safety Audit Training (RoSPA or equivalent)
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (MCIHT or equivalent)
- Membership of SoRSA (or similar professional body)
- Excellent project management and communication skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and related design software
- A full UK driving licence is required
- Occasional out-of-hours work will be expected
