Job Title: Team Leader (Food & Health & Safety)

Pay Rate: £28 per hour Umbrella LTD (Inside IR35)
About the Role: We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Team Leader (Food & Health & Safety) to join a Council Client in Central London. This is a senior-level role responsible for managing a team covering food safety, health & safety, public health licensing, infectious disease control, and health promotion initiatives. The successful candidate will lead operational delivery, policy development, and enforcement to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of officers delivering food safety, health & safety, and public health enforcement.
- Provide specialist guidance on food safety and health regulations to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Oversee inspection programmes, enforcement actions, and compliance monitoring.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for food safety, public health licensing, and smoke-free regulations.
- Represent the council at Cabinet meetings, Scrutiny Committees, and working groups.
- Investigate complex cases, including food safety breaches, infectious diseases, and accident notifications.
- Ensure the council meets statutory obligations and performance targets.
- Prepare reports, respond to government consultations, and lead on strategic improvements.
- Handle complaints, Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, and legal proceedings related to enforcement actions.
- Degree in Environmental Health or a related field.
- Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in food safety and health & safety enforcement.
- Experience in managing teams and supervising enforcement officers.
- Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks, including food safety, health & safety, and public health licensing.
- Proven experience in handling prosecutions, legal cases, and presenting evidence in court.
- Strong report writing, policy development, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency in IT systems and environmental health databases.
- Full UK driving licence required.
- Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
- Management qualification or experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience in health and wellbeing projects related to environmental health.
