Job Title: HR Adviser
Location: London, Lewisham
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Temporary
Weekly Hours: 37 hours per week
Job Purpose The HR Adviser plays a key role in delivering a high-quality, customer-focused HR service. You will provide expert advice on employment legislation, policies, and best practices while supporting managers across various departments. This role involves handling complex HR cases, managing employee relations, and contributing to the development of HR strategies that enhance people management and organisational performance.
Principal Accountabilities • Provide expert HR advice and support to managers on employment law, policies, and procedures.
• Manage a diverse and complex caseload, ensuring cases progress efficiently and are resolved effectively.
• Support organisational change initiatives, including restructures, redundancies, TUPE transfers, and job evaluations.
• Advise and coach managers on employee relations, including disciplinary, grievance, absence management, and performance issues.
• Maintain strong working relationships with trade unions, participating in consultation and negotiation forums.
• Design and deliver HR-related training, including induction programmes, employee engagement activities, and diversity initiatives.
• Analyse HR data and produce reports to support senior management in decision-making.
• Work closely with legal services on employment law matters, preparing witness statements for Employment Tribunals where necessary.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR policies and strategies to enhance people management across the organisation.
• Support the development of an inclusive working environment, ensuring equality and diversity are embedded in HR practices.
Candidate Profile Essential Skills & Experience: • Proven experience as an HR professional in a complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and employee relations.
• Experience managing HR casework, including restructures, performance management, and disciplinary procedures.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and persuasive advice to managers.
• Ability to prioritise workloads, manage multiple projects, and work under pressure.
• Strong IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office and HR management systems.
• Experience working in a unionised environment.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
Desirable Skills & Knowledge: • Experience working in a local government or public sector HR environment.
• Chartered membership of the CIPD or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of political environments and the role of elected officials in HR decision-making.
