Service Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Housing Officer to join their Housing, Regeneration and Operations Directorate.
As a Housing Officer, you will be responsible for providing efficient and effective housing management services within a designated area. You’ll be delivering services in line with the council's policies and priorities, managing a range of tenancy and estate management functions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage tenancy agreements, anti-social behaviour (ASB) issues, and estate management within your designated area.
  • Provide advice and support for tenants, identifying tenancy support needs and making appropriate referrals.
  • Maximise rental income by ensuring the recovery of rent arrears and court costs.
  • Deliver comprehensive landlord functions to tenants, leaseholders, and residents.
  • Undertake regular tenancy visits and monitor property conditions and communal areas.
  • Work closely with external agencies to provide welfare benefit advice, income maximisation, and debt counselling services.
  • Assist with property allocations and the letting of properties in accordance with the council’s Allocations Policies.
  • Ensure compliance with fire and health and safety regulations.
  • Respond to ASB issues, prepare legal notices, and provide support in court proceedings when required.
  • Maintain good relationships with tenants and outside agencies through communication and consultations.
Essential Criteria:
  • Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English.
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in social housing.
  • In-depth knowledge of housing management and tenancy procedures.
  • Proven experience in delivering excellent customer service.
  • Ability to handle difficult and confrontational situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience of writing reports.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage your workload efficiently.
  • Good IT literacy and experience with housing management software.
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including attending out-of-office meetings and responding to emergencies.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience in improving housing services or managing change in a housing context.
  • Experience working with vulnerable or elderly tenants and providing specialist housing support.
