Vehicle Technician

Job Description

Service Care Solutions have a vacancy for a Vehicle Technician to join a client they are working with in Leeds on a temporary basis with the opportunity to secure a stable position.

Overall Purpose of Role
You will be working as part of a team to maintain the council's fleet of vehicles, plant, and equipment. Responsibilities include inspection, servicing, test preparation, fault diagnosis, and repair to ensure reliable operations.

Main Duties/Key Tasks

  • Perform inspections, servicing, test preparation, fault diagnostics, and repairs on vehicles/plant/equipment
  • Complete written and computerised records detailing work performed, parts used, and time taken
  • Interpret defect reports, provide advice, and feedback to users and drivers
  • Miscellaneous workshop-related tasks

Responsibilities & Objectives

  • Maintain a safe, clean workshop by appropriately disposing of waste and redundant parts.
  • Prioritise and manage workloads efficiently to meet customer service standards.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to deliver high-quality maintenance services.
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies, industry regulations, and council guidelines.
  • Actively implement and promote council equality policies.
  • Stay updated on advancements in vehicle maintenance and share knowledge within the team.
  • Use new technologies and tools to improve efficiency and service quality.

Job Requirements/Personal Specification
Training, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective communication and listening skills for customer interactions.
  • Health & safety training relevant to vehicle maintenance.
  • Proficiency with workshop ICT systems, diagnostic tools, and electronic job cards.
  • Expertise in diagnosing and repairing vehicle, plant, and equipment faults.
  • Accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Welding competency is advantageous.

Knowledge and Preferred Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Completion of a recognised industry apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in vehicle or plant engineering (e.g., City & Guilds Part II, BTEC National, ONC/D).
  • Literacy, numeracy skills, and a full, current driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Class C LGV licence and experience driving diverse vehicle types.


Experience:

  • Previous work in a large, diverse transport maintenance facility is desirable.
  • Proven expertise in servicing vehicles, diagnosing faults, and carrying out repairs.
