Children's Residential Support Worker

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children and young people with learning disabilities? Westmorland & Furness council are looking for someone to join their dedicated team at Huntley Avenue Short Breaks Children's Home for a fulfilling 12-month contract. Our mission is to support children and young people to grow, learn, develop, and live positive and fulfilled lives. We offer an outstanding needs-led respite service that helps improve independent living skills, social interactions, and self-confidence, enabling children to reach their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people with learning disabilities.
  • Promote a home-from-home environment where individuality is respected and nurtured.
  • Communicate effectively with children, listening to their views and wishes.
  • Support the development of independent living skills and social interactions.
  • Assist in health, education, and personal development activities.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervisions, and appraisals to continually improve care practices.
  • Work collaboratively with families, social workers, and other professionals to ensure consistent care.
  • Facilitate fun and enjoyable experiences to help children develop peer and social interactions.
  • Support children in their transition to adulthood through careful planning and support.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.

Candidate Requirements:

  • NVQ lvl 3 in residential childcare or equivalent experience
  • Enhanced DBS
  • Passion for working with children and young people with learning disabilities.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the children and the service.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
