Service Care Legal are currently recruiting for a reputable law firm in South London who are seeking a Mental Health accredited Solicitor to join their team. Please find below further details regarding this position.
 
Job Title:                            Head of Department – Mental Health Law and Court of Protection
Location:                            Lewisham, London
Salary:                                 Over £50,000 per annum + Bonuses + Pension
Job Purpose:                     To lead and develop the Mental Health Law and Court of Protection Department, overseeing casework, compliance, and team management, while driving growth and business development. This is a senior role requiring at least 5 years PQE and Mental Health Accreditation.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the department, developing strategies for growth and enhancing service delivery.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of solicitors and caseworkers, ensuring high professional standards and compliance with LAA regulations.
  • Manage a varied caseload and ensure timely billing and quality assurance of files.
  • Keep the team updated on legal changes, providing training and development opportunities.
  • Promote the department, assist with marketing, and maintain client relationships.
  • Meet an annual fee-earning target of £203,000 and ensure accurate chargeable time recording.
Person Specification: 
  • Accreditation: Mental Health Law Accreditation.
  • Experience: A qualified Solicitor (or CILEx) with a minimum 5 years PQE in Mental Health Law/COP, with management and legal aid experience.
  • Skills: Strong communication, time management, and IT skills. Ability to work with diverse clients and lead a team.
  • Desirable: Experience with legal aid audits, business development, and training staff.
