Temporary, 3 Month Contract - Immediate Start
Taunton, Somerset
Full Time, 37 Hours Per Week
Hybrid Working Available (2 Days in Office)
Driving & Own Vehicle Required, Basic DBS

We are seeking a dedicated Housing Options Officer to join a local authority in Taunton on a temporary basis. This role involves providing advice, information, and assistance to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will help applicants explore their housing options and find suitable accommodation. This position requires working with various partners and agencies to prevent and reduce homelessness in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer advice on homelessness prevention, housing options, tenure rights, and security of tenure.
  • Communicate with applicants via phone, email, or letter.
  • Progress homeless and housing applications, ensuring compliance with current legislation and the Homelessness Code of Guidance.
  • Assess applicants' circumstances and needs to create personalized housing plans.
  • Make decisions on duties owed to applicants and refer them to partner agencies for additional support.
  • Maintain accurate records of all applications, assessments, decisions, and outcomes.
  • Assist applicants in accessing the private rented sector and provide financial help through council schemes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education qualification to at least A level standard or equivalent knowledge to NVQ level 4.
  • Knowledge of homelessness legislation and landlord and tenant law (desirable).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships.
  • Experience within a Housing Options team or similar organisation (desirable).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Resourceful, solution-focused, and able to overcome barriers.

Additional Information:

  • The role involves occasional evening and weekend work, including on-call duties.
  • A current driving license and access to your own vehicle are required for client visits.
