Deprivation Of Liberty Safeguards Officer

Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Officer to join a supportive team at Staffordshire County Council. The DoLS team ensures that adults who lack the capacity to consent to their care or treatment, which may restrict their liberty, have their best interests protected according to the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Hours: Mon-Fri, 9-5

Pay: £14.71 per hour

Location: Stafford

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and administer DoLS requests, ensuring timely processing and compliance with statutory timescales and the DoLS Code of Practice.
  • Allocate and complete assessments with appropriate Best Interest Assessors and Mental Health Assessors.
  • Support and guide care homes and hospitals through the DoLS application process.
  • Advise on completing DoLS forms to meet Code of Practice standards.
  • Coordinate the allocation of Best Interest Assessors, Mental Health Assessors, and Independent Mental Capacity Advocates.
  • Ensure relevant person's representatives are appointed and supported on time.
  • Prioritize and monitor high-priority DoLS requests.
  • Communicate DoLS requirements effectively to all involved parties.
  • Organize meetings and training for Best Interest Assessors.
  • Identify cases needing judicial review and liaise with legal services to meet court deadlines.
  • Respond to DoLS authorizations and ensure correct supervisory body identification.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience working with people.
  • Understanding of the DoLS Code of Practice and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Administrative experience.
  • Knowledge of the Care Act and ordinary residence.
  • Proficient in using computer systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to improve DoLS processes.
  • Experience providing high-quality service to internal and external customers.
