Overview: Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for a Band 6 Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) to join the 18+ Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Team in Peterborough. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a forward-thinking, recovery-focused NHS team supporting individuals at a critical stage of their mental health journey.
The service supports individuals aged 14–65 who are experiencing first-episode psychosis or symptoms indicating early psychotic experiences. The aim is to provide timely intervention, reduce the duration of untreated psychosis, and improve long-term outcomes through early, assertive, and person-centred support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Triage & Assessment: Act as the initial point of clinical contact for new referrals. Conduct timely and thorough assessments to determine urgency, risk, and appropriate care pathways.
- Care Coordination: Contribute to MDT discussions and treatment planning. Support the allocation of service users to appropriate clinicians.
- Caseload Management: Carry a small, manageable caseload to provide direct support, care coordination, and therapeutic interventions in line with EIP best practices.
- Liaison & Collaboration: Attend inpatient ward rounds (mostly via video conferencing), liaise with families, carers, and other services (e.g., GPs, social care, schools), and provide feedback to referrers.
- Crisis Management & Duty Cover: Provide cover on the duty rota to manage urgent calls, mental health crises, and support colleagues with risk management.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records and contribute to care planning, CPA meetings, and risk assessments in accordance with NHS Trust policies.
This new Band 6 role is being brought in to provide additional capacity, help clear waiting lists, and enhance the service’s ability to provide responsive and high-quality care to individuals at a vulnerable point in their lives.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with a valid NMC registration
- Proven experience in community mental health, EIP, or crisis services
- Confident in mental health assessments, risk management, and safeguarding
- Able to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong IT, communication, and documentation skills
- Knowledge of CPA, NICE Guidelines for Psychosis, and recovery-focused care models is highly desirable
