The Building Maintenance Service Manager will be responsible for overseeing the compliance, maintenance, and repair of corporate and council-owned buildings (excluding housing). The role involves strategic planning, policy development, budget management, and ensuring high standards of estate and facilities management.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support a team of six direct reports in facilities management and contractor oversight.
- Manage estate health, safety, and compliance across corporate sites.
- Oversee a revenue budget of £5 million, ensuring cost-effective service delivery.
- Develop operational strategies aligned with council policies and best practices.
- Act as a key advisor to senior management on estate and facilities-related matters.
- Represent the Head of Service at internal, regional, and national forums.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, health & safety policies, and operational best practices.
- Manage emergency response and business continuity planning for building maintenance.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety, compliance, and building maintenance regulations.
- Proven experience in facilities and estate management within a large organisation.
- Budget management experience, particularly in a challenging financial environment.
- Ability to lead teams, manage stakeholders, and oversee contractor performance.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and report-writing skills.
- Experience working in a political environment and engaging with elected members.
- Degree-level education or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
- A valid UK driving licence is desirable.
