About the role
To implement and enforce the requirements of the Building Regulations and Associated Legislation in an effective and efficient manner, both in an office and site environment, dealing with a varied and heavy workload, so as to ensure that Statutory Requirements and performance targets are met.

Responsibilities
To make a positive contribution to Building Control, in particular the following:

  • To maintain registration as a Registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator to a competency level no lower than Class 2b.
  • To be responsible for and to manage their own work in consultation with the Building Control Manager, ensuring that the services provided are delivered effectively and efficiently.
  • To contribute to the overall performance of the Section by assisting in the preparation, implementation and review of the Section Delivery Plan to maintain and improve service delivery.
  • To actively contribute to the performance targets and outcomes of the Section and to meet personal targets in order to assist the Council in meeting its requirements to deliver the Community and Council Plans.
  • To maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of appropriate legislation, the Building Regulations and Approved Documents, Government Guidance and Circulars, British Standards, approved Codes of Practice and Best Practice Technical Guidance necessary for the performance of the Post holder, the team(s) and the Section, and to update knowledge relating to e-planning and on-line services and be committed to undertake a process of continuous learning and development.
  • To undertake training and education, as identified in conjunction with the Section Manager, with a commitment to obtaining appropriate qualifications and membership of Professional Organisations relevant to the post, and to further develop their knowledge and expertise as required.
  • To determine submitted applications for compliance with the Building Regulations and Associated Legislation including carrying out all necessary consultations with internal and external Consultees, liaison with Agents and Applicants and all other associated works necessary, including keeping appropriate records, so as to enable a decision to be made on the Application within Statutory time limits.


Requirements

  • Possession of, or studying towards, a University Degree or equivalent in a building related subject and be able to progress to full membership of RICS, CIOB or CABE
  • To be a Registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator to a competency level no lower than Class 2b.


Knowledge

  • Ability to demonstrate an expertise in all aspects of Building Control and its operational function.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of national and regional Building Control issues
  • Possess relevant I.T. skills, e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Word and GIS applications.
